Kyle McLennan’s Mt Major VDHS Rd6 Report

Mt. Major brought something different to the series – the track was open, short and fairly basic, technically. Despite the relatively basic track, crashes and miraculous saves were a plenty. This was especially true with the difficult to clear gaps at the bottom end of the track, where so many would come up a little short for comfort.

Thankfully the weather held off for the weekend, blessing everyone that had turned up (only around 2/3 of the usual amount of entries) with a couple of warm and dry days. As the weekend progressed the track became faster, the corners wore in and the small loose rocks were knocked out. I really enjoyed the track by the end of the weekend, despite my some initial skepticism.

The times were quite tight when it came to racing thanks to the smaller amount of opportunities to make up time. Jesse Beare broke out to win the elite men with a time of 2:06; taking his first win for the series with 0.7 secs back to Joel Panozzo and Connor Fearon another half second back to round out the top 3. Leonie Picton was once again the victor in the women’s, with Holly Baarspul once again not far behind. Watching these two women fight it out next season should be very interesting to watch. Dean Lucas continued his impressive form taking out the under 19’s category, closely followed by Henry Blake and Trent Piribauer.

Overall it was a great weekend, there were some interesting results and finally some proper jumps on a track! Just like to thank everyone that turned up for a really enjoyable weekend of racing.
