The CrossMark is the dramatic evolution of the cross country racing tire. The nearly continuous center ridge flies on hardpack, yet has enough spacing to grab wet roots and rocks. The slightly raised ridge of side knobs offers cornering precision never before seen on a tire this fast.
Wirebead: As it can be the economy option, it is used for downhill riding. The wire beads are less elastic than the aramid-fiber (Kevlar) beads used in folding tires, which helps hold the tire to the rim in hard cornering at lower tire pressure.
Folding: The main advantage of a folding-bead tire is its weight. The aramid fiber beads weigh less than steel wire. Folding beads are also easier to store and travel with.
EXO Protection: Proprietary woven material based sidewall, specially integrated exterior design on selected models, increased abrasion and cut resistance for optimal performance.
L.U.S.T.: An acronym which stands for "Lightweight Ultimate Sidewall Technology." The outside of the casing is covered in a lightweight material and an airtight rubber compound resulting in a durable tire with increased puncture resistance that is lightweight with excellent air retention.
TPI: TPI stands for threads per Inch. It defines the number of threads contained in one inch of the tire casing. The lower the number of TPI, the larger the gauge cords in the casing. Thus, the more durable the tire becomes. The higher the TPI, the more lightweight the tire becomes and the more supple the ride of the tire.
Dual or 2PLY: Two 60 TPI (threads per inch) casings vulcanized with butyl rubber and reinforced sidewalls make up Maxxis downhill casings, which are world renowned for performance and reliability. Maxxis DH casings provide more stability at high speeds and allow for lower air pressure without the risk of pinch flatting.
Silkworm: This technology is incorporated into the casing of select tires to increase puncture resistance and decrease rolling resistance.
UST Tubeless: Universal Standard for Tubeless (UST) is a technology that integrates a unique square bead with a UST specific rim/wheel. As the tire is inflated, the bead locks into place with the rim/wheel. This creates uninterrupted air retention and eliminates the need for an inner tube.
